Alfio T. Mistretta

LAWRENCE -- Alfio T. Mistretta, 85, died Tuesday at Port Skilled Nursing Facility in Newburyport.

Born in Lawrence and educated in Peabody, he graduated from Peabody High School. He was a firefighter in Lawrence.

Mr. Mistretta served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Roosevelt era and in the Army during World War II as a staff sergeant, serving in both the Panama Canal and Great Britain. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Rosary and the Third Order of St. Francis.

The widower of Catherine (Santagati) Mistretta, he leaves daughter Lucy Milton of Seabrook, N.H.; son Frank T. of Salem, N.H.; sister Josephine Lemay of Beverly; brothers Salvatore of Peabody and John of Beverly; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours are tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. A funeral Mass will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.
