David I. Walsh

LAWRENCE -- David I. Walsh, 83, died yesterday at home.

He was a firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Department from 1950 until he retired in 1986.

Born in Lawrence, Mr. Walsh graduated from Lawrence High School in 1939 and served in the Navy as a gunner's mate second class during World War II. He was a member of the Methuen Rod & Gun Club and the Lawrence Firefighters Relief Association.

The widower of Gertrude (Fairburn) Walsh, he leaves son David P. and his wife Elizabeth of Salem, N.H.; daughters Kathleen F. Walsh-Greenwood and her husband Donald of Methuen and Joanne F. Lamontagne and her husband Kevin of Methuen; brothers Eugene of Lawrence and John of Methuen; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Lawrence Firefighters Relief Association, 65 Lowell St., Lawrence, MA 01840.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours are Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. Funeral services will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary-Immaculada Concepcion Church, 205 Hampshire St., Lawrence. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, North Andover.
