John W. Verbicky Sr

YORK, Maine — John W. Verbicky Sr., 81, of 16 Bluestone Lane and formerly of Lawrence, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1927 in Lawrence, a son of John J. and Emily (Suda) Verbicky. He was a Marine veteran of World War II. He was a firefighter for the Lawrence Fire Dept. for 30 years and worked on Engines 2, 3 and 9 before retiring.

He was a member of the Retired Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing and playing cards.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Annie M. (Carabello) Verbicky; two sons, William J. Verbicky of Saugus and John W. Verbicky Jr. and his wife Pamela Verbicky of York Beach, Maine; a daughter, Kathleen M. Lippe and her husband, Robert Lippe of York Beach, Maine; two sisters, Joan Berry of Lawrence and Sr. Mary Jeane Verbicky, SND of Lowell; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours for John will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 24 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in St. Christopher's Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York, Maine.
