Thomas J. Troy, 75, of Salem, N.H., died Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Mr. Troy was a firefighter for the City of Lawrence for 37 years.

He was stationed at Engine 6 for the greater part of his career. In 1973, he was honored as Fireman of the Year by the Lawrence Exchange Club.

Before World War II, he was employed at the Ayer Mills in Lawrence.

During the war, Mr. Troy served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946.

Mr. Troy served as past president of the Lawrence Firefighters Union Local 146, was past vice president of District 4 of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts Firefighters Union and past president of the Lawrence Retired Firefighters Association.

He was a member of Central Labor Council AFL-CIO of the Merrimack Valley and belonged to the Mutual Relief Association.

Mr. Troy was a member of the Salem Historical Society and a member of the Democratic City Committee of Lawrence.

Mr. Troy was born in Lawrence and had lived in the city most of his life. He was educated in the former St. Rita School and St. Mary Grammar School. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Lowell Technical College.


He leaves his wife of 47 years, Mary B. (Burke) Troy; daughters Mary C. and her husband John A. Frangipane, Susan B. and Eileen E., all of Salem, and Margaret E. Troy of Lawrence; sons and their wives Thomas J. Jr. and Toni of Manchester, John F. and Jill of Windham, and William B. Troy of Salem; brothers William H. Troy Jr. of Fremont and John F. Troy of Atkinson; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, Lawrence. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.


Friends may call tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen.
